The Guelph Greener Homes program is an interest free loan between up to $50,000 offered by the Government of Canada to help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient. The program provides rebates for eligible homeowners who make energy-efficient upgrades to their homes, such as installing new insulation, upgrading to a high-efficiency heat pump, or purchasing ENERGY STAR® certified windows and doors. The program is part of a city plan to become a net-zero carbon emission community by 2050 and win the Race to Zero.
GUELPH GREENER HOMES ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES
To be eligible the homeowners must meet the following criteria:
- Residential low-rise buildings in Guelph with a property tax account with the City;
- All registered owner(s) of the property must consent to participating in the Program;
- Properties with no back taxes or liens or title disputes;
- Property must be more than five (5) years old;
- The home improvements haven’t started yet.
GUELPH GREENER HOMES APPLICATION PROCESS
To apply for the Guelph Greener Homes program, homeowners must complete the following steps:
Schedule a pre-upgrade home evaluation with a licensed service organization
Complete the energy-efficient upgrades with a licensed contractor
Schedule a post-upgrade home evaluation with a licensed service organization
Submit all necessary paperwork and documentation to the program

Question: Can I install the upgrades myself and still be eligible for the rebate?
Answer: No, all upgrades must be installed by a licensed contractor to be eligible for the rebate.
Question: Can I apply for the rebate if I’ve already completed the upgrades?
Answer: No, all upgrades must be completed after the pre-upgrade home evaluation to be eligible for the rebate.

Homes that are not the owners’ primary residence and do not have an active Enbridge Gas account
Multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) with more than 3 stories or larger than 600 m2
Cooperatives
Homes built less than 6 months ago
Mixed use buildings that are less than 50% residential
